Welcome to the Handwritten Collection!
Hello and welcome to SPĒS’s blog: the handwritten series. Starting a blog is something that I’ve been wanting to do for quite sometime and there truly is no time like the present. The inspiration behind the name is drawn from my idea for the blog coming to mind while sipping coffee and journaling. I have always found that writing down my thoughts acts as a therapy session and allows me to express all my emotions without fear of being judged.
When I was younger, I often wished that I could find a space that talked about similar issues or circumstances that I was facing. As an older sibling of a brother who was diagnosed with autism at a young age, my childhood and overall life experiences looked- and continue to look- a little different from those around me. Now I know that ‘different’ doesn’t have to have a negative connotation to it and once you’ve learned to embrace the cards you’re dealt with then you truly get to enjoy life. I hope that this blog helps people- especially siblings- connected to an individual with intellectual/developmental disabilities feel seen, heard, and valued.
All of the blog posts are pages taken from my own journal that are then re-written on this platform for you all to read. In other words, the blog posts are all handwritten first and are a collection of my experiences, thoughts, feelings, and advice. The handwritten collection will also feature narratives from my community to shed light on their experiences, thoughts, feelings, and advice.
So, here’s to hoping; achieving; and succeeding in all areas of our lives.
With love,
Natasha Agramont (Founder of SPĒS)
